Gift Giving

WHY YOUR GIFT MATTERS Thanks to the generosity of generations of Vanderbilt alumni and friends, our reputation as one of the country’s most outstanding universities is stronger than ever. Your gift to the College of Arts and Science will help ensure that we maintain that standard of excellence for future students.

With your support, we will:

  • Continue to attract the very brightest of students
  • Recruit faculty of the highest caliber
  • Create and maintain facilities that are second to none

Your gifts to the College of Arts and Science may be designated in one of two ways: unrestricted or restricted.

UNRESTRICTED GIFTS go directly towards solving the most pressing needs of Arts and Science. They are a major funding source of scholarships and financial aid. Unrestricted gifts may also be used at the dean’s discretion when special opportunities arise or an unplanned need for spending occurs. These gifts have improved the College of Arts and Science by:

  • Funding scholarships and increasing financial assistance to allow the top students to be able to attend Vanderbilt, regardless of their family’s financial situation
  • Recruiting and retaining top faculty
  • Allowing for the renovation and construction of classrooms and laboratories, like the newly renovated Buttrick Hall and the new Studio Arts building.
  • Funding curriculum enhancements, like the addition of new majors and classes.

RESRICTED GIFTS support an area of the university designated by you, the donor. These may include gifts designated towards buildings, specific scholarships or awards, student groups or many other options. For example, if you wish to endow a named scholarship or faculty chair, that would be a restricted gift.
