Gift Giving

Donor Society - The College Cabinet

In 1976 The College Cabinet was founded by 27 charter members with the goal of recognizing alumni, parents, and friends who contributed $1,000 per year or more annually to the College of Arts and Science. Today, the Cabinet has nearly 800 members, each of whom makes a yearly gift of at least $1,000 in either unrestricted or restricted funds.

Your membership in the College Cabinet demonstrates your sincere interest in Vanderbilt's College of Arts and Science and its future. Members are kept up to date on the College of Arts and Science through A&S publications and letters from Dean McCarty.

What does the College Cabinet support?

Gifts from College Cabinet members may fund specific restricted areas, like scholarships, buildings and faculty members. Or they may be considered unrestricted and support the annual needs of the College of Arts and Science. Gifts from College Cabinet members make up nearly 75% of all unrestricted giving to the College of Arts and Science. Unrestricted giving benefits Arts and Science by:

  • Funding scholarships and increasing financial assistance to allow the top students to be able to attend Vanderbilt, regardless of their family's financial situation.
  • Recruiting and retaining top faculty
  • Allowing for the renovation and construction of classrooms and laboratories, like the newly renovated Buttrick Hall and the new Studio Arts building.
  • Funding curriculum enhancements such as the addition of new majors and classes.
