Faculty Assistance in developing courseware:
The Language Center, the Learning Resource Center, and the Microcomputer Labs are equipped to assist faculty in selecting and/or developing courseware. Todd Hughes, in the Language Center, will be pleased to explore options for language instruction. Jamie Adams, in the Learning Resource Center, will assist faculty in using Authorware and PowerPoint® as well as editing and converting standard video to a digital format. Carlos Trenary and Brandes Holcomb in the Microcomputer Laboratories will assist in developing general web applications and Dreamweaver®. Contact Ted Payne for support in using Power Point and OAK (Blackboard) course management software. In addition to software development, the Learning Resource Center and the Microcomputer Laboratories maintain multimedia systems that allow scanning documents and images, video capture, and color printing. These systems contain Iomega Zip® drives and CD-ROM readers and writers to allow for portable use. The systems in the Microcomputer Laboratories "Faculty Room" in Garland 112 are available to all faculty who may need to do special projects or just need a computer.
Regular Classrooms and Lecture Halls:
Faculty may request a variety of video, sound, and computing equipment in all college classrooms. All classrooms in the College have a network port to allow access to the full panoply of network services, including the world wide web. Faculty may reserve instructional equipment, including computers, through the Learning Resource Center in Garland 221. The LRC will bring mobile audio/visual and/or computing equipment as well as projection devices to the classroom. (Due to a lack of storage facilities, computing support in the Residence Hall seminar rooms is limited.) To receive this service, contact Penny Peirce (2-4855) at least 24 hours in advance of when the equipment is needed.
Demonstration Classrooms:
The College of Arts and Science supports 51 technology enhanced or Demonstration classrooms. Each of these rooms contains at least one computer Windows system that is equipped with a CD/DVD drive, floppy disk, 250MB Zip Drive, and USB port. In larger classrooms, there is also a Macintosh system. In addition, each room has a VCR player, DVD player, sound, projector(s), and screen. All of the classroom computers contain two web browsers, MS-Office (including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word), WP Office, Mulberry, and VUweb mail.
