Finding Internships

Internships are wonderful for a variety of reasons. Not only do interns gain valuable workplace experience, they are also able to explore an industry, get exposed to organizational culture, and build a professional network. Interested in hearing Vanderbilt students share their internship experiences? Check out the Student Internship Panel Video.

Are you ready to begin your internship search? Check out the the job/internship search skills where we will describe the next steps you should take.

The VCC posts many of the opportunities we receive on CareerLink, which features job and internship postings and campus recruiting events. Additionally, we are involved in a consortium with several peer institutions called the University Career Action Network (UCAN). UCAN can be accessed through CareerLink. Simply select "UCAN" from the drop down menu under "jobs/internship" tab.

The VCC has also established several internship programs in partnership with Vanderbilt Alumni, Faculty, and staff: Vandy-in Hollywood, Vanderbilt Engineering Internship Program, and Vandy on Madison Ave.

There are many other opportunities to intern through departments on the Vanderbilt Campus just to name a few: Vanderbilt Internship Experience In Washington (VIEW), Vanderbilt Summer Undergraduate Research Program, and Vanderbilt Undergraduate Clinical Research Program. The career coach in your cluster of interest can help you identify additional resources on and off the Vanderbilt Campus.

Some internships will require that you receive academic credit to participate. If you are an A&S student, please contact Associate Dean Yollette Jones. Interested Blair students should contact Associate Dean Cynthia Cyrus. The internship contact for the School of Engineering is Associate Dean Stacy Klein. Peabody students should contact Director of Internships, Vicki Davis, with questions regarding internship credit.

While you are encouraged to spend a significant portion of your time networking, there are multiple places on-line you can identify internship opportunities. The VCC purchases access to www.internships-usa.com, which has 14 different books of industry specific internship opportunities. The VCC also subscribes to CareerSearch which is a database of over 4 million companies that also posts internship opportunities.

Opportunities are also posted on company websites, aggregator sites (such as www.indeed.com and www.simplyhired.com), industry specific sites (i.e. engineering, healthcare, non-profit), college specific sites (like www.collegegrad.com), and niche websites which have a specific mission (INROADS).
