Career Exploration
If you want to begin or are currently exploring what industries, job/internships, career fields are out there, the VCC is here to help. The first step in beginning this process is to complete the Individualized Coaching Action Plan (ICAP). This online form will help us to determine how we can best begin assisting you. After you complete the ICAP print it out and bring it to the VCC for a Coaching Assessment. At your Coaching Assessment, which are offered daily and last approximately 15 minutes, you will get to meet with a VCC staff member. During the Coaching Assessment the staff member will assist you in determining the next steps in your exploration process. If you already have a field in mind, we will connect you with one of our Career Clusters.
Career Clusters
Upon completion of the ICAP and Coaching Assessment, you will be guided into one or more of the VCC's eight Career Clusters. Each cluster is headed by a coach who is an expert in the field. A coach may suggest you take the Meyers Briggs or CareerLeader Career Assessments to help you in the exploration process. After completing the Assessment, you will attend a workshop where a coach will explain how you can use your results to discover more about yourself and explore potential action steps. As you begin working with a coach, they may suggest you conduct informational interviews, with individuals in your fields of interest or look into shadowing opportunities, which allow you to become immersed in the culture of an industry. As you discover new things about yourself and your connection to the world of work, you will gain a better perspective on things you might want to do later.
