The Peer Career Advocate (PCA) is a paid position for undergraduate students. PCAs play an important role at the Career Center by leading Career Center teams, presenting workshops to peers, engaging employers in networking opportunities, participating in core team meetings, developing new resources, and assisting with the planning of large events. On a daily basis, PCAs assist students and employers, work on projects, participate in team meetings, and help with general administrative tasks.

Applicants should:

  • Be current first-, second-, or third-year students
  • Have strong written and verbal skills
  • Enthusiasm for peer education
  • Possess the ability to manage time effectively
  • Be able to take the initiative to learn new information
  • Possess the ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Have prior leadership experience
  • Provide a high level of customer service

Peer Career Advocates are viewed as VCC staff and are valued for the insight, creativity, and contributions they make towards the success of the Career Center.  To assist the PCAs in being effective, every Peer Career Advocate receives extensive training on career planning, which enhances their own internship and job search skills.
