Purpose

Vanderbilt Equestrian Team is a club sport at Vanderbilt University. It was founded in the fall of 1988 by Erika Meyers a undergraduate student at Vanderbilt; other student leaders Cindy Burns and Kathy McClure were also critical in the formation. The club began competing in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Region 6 that same year against other teams such as Kentucky, Tennessee and Southern Illinois. In February 1998, the club competed in their first show at Morehead State College in Morehead, KY. We developed a good relationship with Middle Tennesse State University Equestrian Team, and in 1989-90 we worked with MTSU to help sponsor it's annual horse show - the first show Vanderbilt hosted. To this day Vanderbilt continues to co-host our annual horse show with MTSU.

Currently the team has club and show hunt seat divisions, with riders ranging from little experience to national competitors. Each hunt seat member of the team participates in two lessons a week at Hunters Court Stables.

VET is a student-run organization. As a result, shows and lessons are student-organized. VET has continued to consistently rank within the top two in the region.
