Richard H. Sinkfield

Richard Sinkfield is a senior partner with the Atlanta law firm of Rogers & Hardin, and his practice emphasis is in litigation and business dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.  He earned his BS from Tennessee State University in 1968 and his JD from the Vanderbilt School of Law in 1971.

He is a Fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Georgia Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the Gate City Bar Association.  He has served on the American Bar Association’s Special Commission on Evaluation of Professional Standards and its standing committee on ethics and professional responsibility.  He was special liaison to the ABA’s standing committee on professional discipline and lawyers’ responsibility for client protection. 

He has been listed for more than ten years in The Best Lawyers in America, and he was listed in Atlanta Magazine’s Top 100 Georgia Super Lawyers for 2004-2011 and as third top vote getter in years 2004 and 2005.  He has been included in the listing of Rogers & Hardin in Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Client’s Guide, for 2003 through 2010.  He is listed in the 2010 edition of The International Who’s Who of Commercial Litigators published by Who’s Who Legal and also has been recognized in the 2010 Lawdragon Top 500 guide.  He was the 2009 recipient of the Learned Hand Award from the Atlanta Chapter of the American Jewish Committee.

A Trustee for Vanderbilt University, he has served as a member of the Board of Trust since 1984.  He has served as a Director of the Weyerhaeuser Company since 1993 and is currently Chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee.  He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Parking Corporation from 2000 to 2005.  He was a Director of United Auto Group, Inc., the nation’s second largest publicly owned automobile retailer, from 1993 to March of 1999, and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of UnitedAuto Group, Inc. with primary responsibilities for manufacturer relations, legal, human resources and training from July of 1997 to March of 1999.

 He is a former member of the Executive Board of the Atlanta Area Counsel of the Boy Scouts of America.  He has previously served on the boards of the Atlanta College of Art, Exodus, Research Atlanta, Zoo Atlanta, Atlanta Urban League, Metropolitan Atlanta Community Foundation and Leadership Atlanta.  He was the 1995 recipient of the Vanderbilt School of Law’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. He served as counsel to the Board of Ethics for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games from 1991 to 1997

He is married to Georganna Sinkfield, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives.  They have two children, Rita Sinkfield Belin, an attorney with Skadden Arps in New York, and Richard H. (Rick) Sinkfield III, an attorney with Laureate Education, Inc. in Washington, D.C.
