Thomas F. Cone

Thomas F. Cone, a trustee since 1997, received a B.A. in business administration from Vanderbilt University in 1960. In 1964, he earned an LL.B. from the Nashville School of Law. He earned his J.D. from the same school in 1971.

From 1969 to 2004, Mr. Cone served as president and chairman of the board of Cone Oil Company, Inc. He is currently chairman of the board of Cone Solvents, Inc.

He serves on the Board of Trustees at Vanderbilt University and the Tennessee Advisory Board of Bank of America. Since 1985 Mr. Cone has served on the Board of Trustees of Battle Ground Academy as chairman of that board for 9 years and continues as a life member. He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Founders Club of the Petrochemical Industry, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and Woodmont Baptist Church. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Dublin School in Dublin, New Hampshire; Meharry Medical School Board of Trustees; Board of Directors of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Nashville and the executive committee for the Boy Scouts of America. He served as 1985 National Reunion Chairman for Vanderbilt University, in 1988 as President of Vanderbilt University National Alumni Association, he co-chaired the Peabody Round Table in 1986, and in 1987 served as dinner Chairman of the Nashville Chapter of the National Conference of Christian and Jews.

He and his wife, Charlotte, are the parents of Susan and Thomas, Jr. They are also the 1994 honorees of the Arthritis Foundation.
