What is Business Objects?

Business Objects is a query and reporting tool that allows access to Vanderbilt data. This information is grouped into "universes," which are owned/sponsored by various business areas. To determine which universe you need to access, please see the list at the bottom of this page.

Training

Universe Specific Resources

Universes represent a particular type of data in Business Objects. The type of data you need access to (i.e., the universe) determines your next steps. Refer to the list below for more information:

Admissions
Allows users to access data about undergraduate applicants to Vanderbilt. For more information on Admissions, please visit http://www.vanderbilt.edu/Admissions/.

APPO (Medical Center & University Central)
Allows users to request information related to Purchase Orders, Accounts Payable Invoices, and Demand Checks. For example, which purchase orders were issued for my centers this month? Or, which invoices were entered against my centers this month? For the Mecical Center, send access requests to bomedicalcenterappo@list.vanderbilt.edu. For University Central users, access request and additional information can be found at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/procurement/reporting/index.shtml.

Budget
Allows users to generate reports based on budgets created for their centers. For access to this reporting universe send requests to bomedicalcenterbudget@list.vanderbilt.edu.

Coeus Universe
Allows users to run reports for Active and Pending Research Award information for their departments and investigators from information in the Coeus system. If you have questions about Coeus and Business Objects please send an email to Coeusoor@vanderbilt.edu.

DAR
Allows users to request information related to alumni, donors and prospective donors of the institution via pre-established reports. Ad hoc requests can be made through DAR Information Management. For additional information, contact DAR.Advance.Help@vanderbilt.edu.

Epic
Allows users to generate reports based on professional-level patient accounting and medical records data. For additional information on this universe send an e-mail to EDWSupport@email.mc.vanderbilt.edu or visit online by clicking here. When requesting access, the security form must be signed by the department´s Director and Security Manager.

General Ledger (formerly Financial Reporting)
Contains data from Vanderbilt´s general ledger system and provides additional reporting functionality outside of the eDog financial application. Users are generally central accounting office staff and some decentralized administrative office accounting staff. Human Resources
Human Resources Business Objects universe allows users to run reports that have been most requested by our customers. The intent of the reports is to assist staff in performing HR duties. For help with accessing and running the HR reports available, please visit the HR Reports webpage at http://hr.vanderbilt.edu/apps/busobj.

Medipac
Allows users to generate reports based on facility-level patient accounting, patient management, and medical records data. For additional information on this universe send an e-mail to EDWSupport@email.mc.vanderbilt.edu or visit online by clicking here. When requesting access, the security form must be signed by the department´s Director and Security Manager.

Privilege Management (formerly STAR)
Allows users to look up Signature Authorization (SigAuth) assignments in addition to Privilege Management audit trail information. Some examples of questions answered using this data include, "Who can sign a small PO on center #1551100000" or "Who granted privileges in PM to a particular user and when?" Student Accounts
Allows users to generate reports and access Student Billing detail for both the current and prior year. To obtain access, users must complete the "Student Account Access Request Form" available at http://mis.vanderbilt.edu/securityandaccess.html. Please note the security form must be signed by the operator´s supervisor/director and returned to the address listed on the form.

Student Records
Allows users to request information related to students, courses, and enrollments. This information is distributed on a need-to-know basis for performing your job at Vanderbilt. To request a report, complete the form "Request For Student Records Data" located at http://www.registrar.vanderbilt.edu/user_resources.htm under the heading InfoView. The form should be returned to the Office of the University Registrar.
