Graduate Scholars Awards Competition
The Center for the Americas is pleased to announce its third annual competition for Graduate Scholars Awards.
We offer up to 15 such awards to students across Vanderbilt University whose scholarly pursuits focus on the Americas and whose research interests are demonstrably cross-disciplinary, comparative, or both. Eligible students from all programs, departments, and schools are invited to apply by February 8, 2008 for one of the two types of awards described below. Send your application to g.altamirano@vanderbilt.edu
Each recipient of one of these awards becomes a Fellow of the Center for the Americas for 2008-09. Being a Fellow means becoming an active part of a growing multi-disciplinary group of scholars and researchers at Vanderbilt having the opportunity not only to be part of the Center's Graduate Workshop but also to attend Fellows dinners, Happy Hours, and other events to learn about the exciting work on the Americas that is going on in our midst. The Center currently has 76 Fellows: graduate and professional students from different Vanderbilt University departments, programs, and schools, faculty from Vanderbilt and other universities in the Americas, and professionals from Nashville and elsewhere. These individuals are Americanists in the broadest sense of the term. Their diverse interests in academic research, public service, or both combine to advance our knowledge of the social, economic, political, and cultural relationships that have shaped the societies of the Americas over time. They also imagine how academics might make positive contributions to those societies as they move into the future.
