Darryl Berger is president of The Berger Co. Inc., a diversified New Orleans-based real estate investment and development firm operating primarily in metropolitan New Orleans, with investments and developments in the Gulf South and other selected markets around the country.
The company and its affiliate partnerships have, over the past 35 years, owned or developed numerous prominent real estate projects and real estate investments, with a primary focus on hotels and retail, together with residential, parking and land investment projects. The company has undertaken a variety of downtown and riverfront projects in New Orleans. Among the most notable is the nationally renowned Jackson Brewery development, one of the largest private redevelopments of an historic area in the country; The Shops and Garage at Canal Place; the Loews New Orleans; The Royal Orleans Hotel; and the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel.
Berger is a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans and is an honors graduate of Vanderbilt University and Tulane University Law School. Among other civic activities, he serves as vice chairman of the Board of Trust of Vanderbilt University, as a trustee and member of the executive committee of the board of Tulane University, and as past chairman of the board of governors of Newman School. Berger has received numerous civic, professional and business awards, was the Louisiana State Chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers, and has frequently been a speaker or lecturer at seminars, professional association meetings, universities and at various real estate related functions.
Berger and his family have been actively engaged in the planning and rebuilding effort in post-Katrina New Orleans. He and his wife, Louellen, have four children: Allison Berger Tiller, Darryl Berger Jr., Brandon Berger and Ryan Berger, all of New Orleans.
