FarrisRichard Kent Farris, M.D.

Kent Farris lives in Knoxville, Tennessee, with his wife of 41 years, Susan Additon Farris (BSN ’67). They have three children, Rick, Christie (B.A. ’92), and Caroline (currently a senior in high school), and three (soon to be four!) grandsons. He entered Vanderbilt Medical School in 1962 through the Senior-in-Absentia program, graduating in 1966, and remained in Nashville for internship and one year of Internal Medicine Residency. After two years in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam, Kent completed his residency requirements and did a Gastroenterology Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill. Having practiced GI in Knoxville since 1973, Kent has been President of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine and Chief of Staff at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center, and continues to be active in the community, especially with Knoxville Opera. He enjoys golf and boating, both in Tennessee and mid-coast Maine. Although residing in “Big Orange Country,” Kent maintains steadfast loyalty to Vanderbilt athletics!
