Jim Johnson and Kent Shalibo were civil engineering classmates back in their undergraduate days. They have continued their friendship as members of the Engineering Alumni Council and now as Co-Chairs of the Class of ’63’s Reunion.

So what has Jim Johnson done since June 1963?

Served as an Army officer in Latin America and Vietnam. Earned graduate degrees from the University of Illinois and Vanderbilt. Married Karen Kay Wallace and we produced Scot, Shelley and Stephanie.

Went to Houston and worked in the engineering and construction business since 1970, currently with Kellogg Brown & Root. Served as Junior Warden at St. Francis Episcopal Church and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at St. Francis Episcopal School.

Stayed in touch with Vanderbilt through membership on the Engineering Alumni Council (where I renewed my friendship with Kent Shalibo), Board of Visitors of the Engineering School and Board of the Alumni Association. Followed Shelley’s and Stephanie’s field hockey careers at The University of Michigan. In my spare time I read political and military history, travel and play an occasional game of golf.
