Paris reception
On December 8, 2006, Vanderbilt alumni living in France gathered for a reception in the Paris residence of Tae-shin Kwon (M.A. '82), Korean Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Doug Christiansen, Associate Provost for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions, was the guest speaker.

travels to the Far East - November 2006
Dean Jim Bradford, Jen Howe, Associate Vice Chancellor for International Advancement, and Tricia Carswell, Associate Dean of OGSM, traveled to Japan, the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea from November 7
- 21, 2006.
The group visited with alumni, parents and friends of Vanderbilt University. Their mission was to connect with Vanderbilt's over 1000 constituents in these countries while continuing progress toward the University's internationalization goals. Highlight
s of the trip include the following:

Japan:
Meetings with officials at Nissan, Bridgestone, JFE Steel, Mizuho Bank and Marubeni Corporation were on the main agenda for Tokyo. A reception for all alumni, parents, friends and potential students was held at the International House in Roppongi. A goo
d time was had by all. Thanks to all who attended and to our volunteers Neil Foust, Joji Tezuka, and Naomi Uozumi for their hard work in making the event a success.

Shanghai:
While in Shanghai, the delegation met with leadership from Fudan University about partnership opportunities, debriefed with the US Consulate Public Affairs Officer on international higher education and visa issues, and conducted individual meetings with a
lumni. A reception was held at the Law Offices of Vinson & Elkins where alumnus and Greater China Vanderbilt Club president Paul Deemer is a partner. There were a good number of attendees (around 35) made up of alumni, parents, friends and prospective s
tudents. A special thank you goes out to our wonderful volunteers: Paul Deemer, Xiaohu (Steve) Li, Shih-Ping (Nancy) Wang, and I-Chun (Eunice) Chou, who were critical to bringing the group together.

Hong Kong:
Our main focus in Hong Kong was to connect with a number of highly positioned graduates at JPMorgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP, Shearman & Sterling, and Sony Pictures. While in Hong Kong the delegation enjo
yed a horse race with current (and past) parents, John and Sandra Wan and daughter Eugenia (EN'03); Ian, their son, is a current student in CAS and OGSM. The Wans also hosted the alumni reception at the prestigious Hong Kong Club. Many thanks to the Wan

Taipei:
The purpose of the visit was to meet with alumni living in Taipei and to talk with two noted graduate business schools, National Taiwan University and National Cheng-chi University. Thanks to Chiew Chang, Edmond Wang and Steve Chi for setting these appointments. A substantial portion of the day was spent discussing possible exchange programs, school structure, the Asian manufacturing and technology boom, comparing programs and the latest development in Asian markets. A reception was held at the Grand Hyatt
Hotel. Many thanks to Chiew Chang who helped arrange the event.

Seoul:
The delegation met with the Vice President of the Human Resource Development Center at Samsung as well as top officials from SK Corporation, LG, and GSK. Many thanks to our Vanderbilt Alumni Association in Korea volunteers, In-Won Lee, Dr. Inuk Chung, Se
ung (Jerry) Jang and Ki-Hong Min, along with VU/OGSM Visiting Professor Myeong Cho, who helped set our appointments and organize the reception at the Westin Chosun Hotel.

Homecoming Abroad
About 25 people gathered at the Coopers Arms Pub on Sat, Nov 18 in London to celebrate Homecoming abroad and watch highlights from the '06 football season.
