Each academic year Vanderbilt welcomes a bright new group of students to our community of learning, discovery and service. These first-year undergraduate, graduate and professional school students come from across the globe and represent 158 countries. Their arrival marks an opportunity to look to the future, to a truly international Vanderbilt community.

In August 2000, Chancellor Gordon Gee set as a goal the creation of a vibrant international mission and presence for Vanderbilt University. One result of the Chancellor's challenge is the establishment and growth of Vanderbilt's international advancement program. The program provides meaningful and responsive ways for graduates, parents and friends who are living and working outside the U.S. to remain engaged with the University as life-long members of the Vanderbilt community—no matter the distance.
