Chartered in 1910, the Alumni Association is governed by a Board of Directors including a president, officers, and directors representing “constituencies” and five geographic regions (Region I, Nashville; Region II, Tennessee excluding Nashville; Region III, the Southeast excluding Tennessee; Region IV, the Northeast; Region V, the West; and Region VI, foreign countries). Other constituencies include the ten largest regional Chapters of the Alumni Association and affiliate alumni associations, including Blair, Divinity, Engineering, Peabody, Law, Owen, Medical, and Nursing Schools.
The presidents of each of those associations serve as ex-officio members of the board, as do the president of the Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni and the General Chair of Reunion.
