Saving for College

The Independent 529 Plan allows you to lock in tuition costs at less than today's price, providing the security of a guarantee against tuition inflation, freedom from market risk, and the flexibility of a national program. Because the colleges invest the funds you pay, they are able to offer a discount on today’s prices. It’s open to the general public. The University Club

ClubThe University Club is conveniently located in the heart of the Vanderbilt campus. The Club is here to serve faculty and staff and their families from accredited institutions of higher learning in Middle Tennessee as well as members of the Board of Regents of the State of Tennessee and of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. We present a variety of options for meeting rooms for members as well as daily lunches and the convenience for the member to reserve space for dinners and receptions that provide opportunities to socialize with constituents, family and friends. Our conscientious, knowledgeable and friendly staff at the Club provides friendly support for meeting and event planning allowing each occasion to flow effortlessly for those in attendance. The Club has great food prepared by a team of experts and ambience that can provide a “home away from home “ atmosphere for you and your guests. The Club hosts themed member events on a monthly basis for example Martini Night (where the menu is served in Martini glasses) A Bastille Day celebration, Saint Patrick’s celebration, a Thanksgiving buffet, Christmas Dinner Dance, Chef’s Table dinners just to name a few. Along with daily lunches served in our Main Dining Room the club also provides at home pre game football and basketball game buffets. The Club is affiliated with an organization that provides access to a network of clubs and facilities both here and overseas for you to frequent and stay at with reciprocal membership benefits. Career Counseling

The Vanderbilt Counseling Center allows alumni to gain career testing and career counseling for a one-time fee of $250.00. (This is extremely reasonable compared to private career firm's prices.) Tests include Strong-Campbell, Duder and Myers-Briggs. Call the Counseling Center at 615-322-2571 to schedule an interview.

University Libraries

Alumni are welcome to visit the University libraries and take advantage of their resources. An alumni ID card (available from the University Card office, 184 Sarratt Student Center, 615-322-2273, for a one-time $10 fee) gives you borrowing privileges and access to all the Vanderbilt libraries. Visit the link above or call 615-322-7100 to see what online services and databases are available to alumni.

The Medical Alumni Digital Library was developed for Vanderbilt's Medical Alumni. Alumni may contact Dr. Ann Price of the Medical Alumni Affairs office to request the login & password at 615-343-6337.

RecStudent Recreation Center

If you graduated before 1990, you may not know about the Student Recreation Center (SRC). Indoor facilities include a multi-purpose gymnasium, volleyball and badminton, indoor track, racquetball/squash courts, swimming pool, a weight room/fitness center, a rock climbing wall and a host of amenities including towel and locker service. One-on-one trainers and aerobic classes are also offered. All Vanderbilt alumni are eligible to use the Student Recreation Center as a guest or purchase a membership. Retirement Learning

Retirement Learning At Vanderbilt is a membership organization that offers non-credit courses JUST FOR FUN. These daytime classes are taught primarily by VU professors and are offered to alumni and the public - even if you are not retired. A variety of classes are offered each six-week term and one full week in the summer. For more information call 615-343-0553.

Nashville Vanderbilt Chapter

If you are an alumnus/a living in Nashville, there are other ways to expand your horizons with the Nashville Vanderbilt Chapter. There are education events, opportunities for community service, volunteer opportunities for Homecoming and other special events as well as alumni recruitment. Watch your mail, check the alumni Web site or contact Sarah Creekmore at 615-322-2929 for more information.

Transcript Fee Eliminated

The University Registrar's Office is pleased to announce that as of August 1, 2003 Vanderbilt alumni will no longer be charged a fee for transcripts. Alumni will continue to pay for special handling and delivery charges such as FedEx, UPS, and Priority Mail. Detailed information on ordering transcripts can be obtained online, or by calling the University Registrar's Office at 615-322-7701.
