May is National Foster Care Month

stick

Locally, you can get involved by participating or supporting Walk Me Home on May 3, 2008:

What is Walk Me Home? (www.walkmehome.org) Walk Me Home is the signature fund-raising and awareness event for foster care in America. We know not everyone can be a foster parent, but Walk Me Home is a great way to support the over 513,000 children in foster care. This year thousands and thousands of walkers will participate in Walk Me Home events across the country, raising funds to support the life changing programs and activities of foster care associations throughout the United States.
There are several local teams walking in this national event.  The Tennessee Youth Advisory Council has a team through the Oasis Center.  You can donate funds to support their team and help Nashville reach their goal.  To support the Oasis TYAC team, please go to

There are many opportunities for members of the community to contribute to Fostering Success.  A business can provide discounts for products and services, provide access to legal assistance and health care, and offer internships or jobs.  Individuals can serve as foster parents or mentors, assist with matching youth savings and contribute to college scholarships.  For more information about ways you can get involved, contact Linda Mattson at linda.mattson@vanderbilt.edu or visit http://www.fosteringsuccess.org.
