The TN Commission on National and Community Service just awarded a $10,000 grant to the Child and Family Policy Center to fund several key activities toward a proposed Tennessee Campus Compact. Activities planned for the year include a one-day statewide service-learning taskforce meeting, the selection of a lead president and host site, a kick-off event, as well as a statewide conference. These activities will address the specific program priority area of the Tennessee Commission on National and Community Service program objective number six: “Campus Compact – In 2006, the Commission seeks to encourage development of a sustainable Campus Compact to support service-learning on college campuses”. A State Compact will contribute to the Corporation for National and Community Service expectation of “broad impact on the growth of service-learning” through a shared commitment to the civic mission of education in Tennessee .
