The after school programs in North Nashville, COPC community, are up and running with a fantastic start. The LOOP (Learning Opens Outstanding Possibilities) has been meeting for over two months now and has an average of 15-20 students at two sites attending the program per week New to The LOOP this year is a Reading Initiative were students who have no homework spend their hour of tutoring working on reading skills. On Friday, October 27th, The LOOP took students to the Vanderbilt Play Day for an afternoon full of fun and games.
Artreach has been doing a fantastic job in the community at three sites teaching students about art history and appreciation. This program has about fifty students they teach each week at the three different sites. Artreach will be taking a field trip to the Frist on Tuesday, November 7 th and Thursday, November 9 th to see the Bedazzled Exhibit.
Synergy has not officially begun yet with some changes in leadership and programmatic change. The program will begin the third week of January. Currently the program is meeting on Thursday's during the month of November to offer tutoring, mentoring, and college assistance to high school students.
New to the after school programs this year are evaluation methods to track what improvements and impact the programs are having on youth in the North Nashville community. New collaborations have also been formed in North Nashville to help the after school programs serve the community better. We would like to thank Pearl Cohn High School and Hadley Park Community Center for their support and commitment to the after school programs.
