2009 Awards
AIAA Southeastern Region Team Competition: 3rd Place in the Team Division
The team presented its project, in an 11-page technical paper and with a 20-minute slideshow presentation in Huntsville Alabama at the 2009 AIAA Region 2 Conference. The team placed 3rd in its division for its performance and work. The Paper and Presentation from that conference can be viewed Here.
2008 Awards
AIAA Southeastern Regional Team Competition: 2nd Place in the Team Division
The team made a presentation on its project, entitled "Rocket-Launched UAV" at the southeastern regional AIAA conference, in the Team Division. The team won 2nd place in its division, and was awarded a plaque and a cash prize.
2007-2008 NASA USLI Competition: Closest to Altitude
In the 2008 competition launch, the 10"-diameter, 14'-tall rocket flew to an altitude of 5,264'. Part of the competition is to fly as nearly as possible to exactly one mile high. Confirmed by four independent altimeters, the Vanderbilt USLI team's rocket achieved the desired altitude more precisely than any other team.
Tennessee AIAA Special Award and Individual Honors
Following its outstanding performance in both the USLI competition and the AIAA regional conference, each member of the Vanderbilt Aerospace Club was presented with a personalized plaque praising "outstanding teamwork in achieving an ambitious goal" at a special awards ceremony at the UTSI.
Tennessee AIAA Faculty Booster Award
Dr. A.V. Anilkumar, the faculty advisor for the Vanderbilt Aerospace Club, was awarded the 2008 Faculty Booster Award by the Tennessee Chapter of the AIAA for his work in cultivating and guiding the team.
2007 Awards
2006-2007 NASA USLI Competition: 3rd Place Overall
In its first year of existence, the Vanderbilt USLI team, flying a 2.6" Public Missiles Quasar rocket equipped with a R-DAS electronics package and two thermocouples - one measuring static temperature, and one measuring stagnation temperature - won 3rd place at the NASA USLI competition.
