S.T.R.I.V.E (Students Trying to Reduce their Impact on Vanderbilt’s Environment)

Advisor:

As a Mayfield Lodge, we plan to learn how to live sustainably by addressing issues that are pertinent to our lifestyles as college students. For example, the sheer amount of food packaging waste we generate from our many trips to the Munchie Mart is simply appalling. With small changes to our daily habits such as choosing foods without plastic wrap and filling up reusable water bottles at Hydration Stations, we can learn what we are able and willing to do in order to continue to live sustainably–even after the school year comes to completion. We anticipate that there will be many aspects ofthis experiment that change us substantially–old habits that were once perfectly reasonable and functional before our experience with our Living Learning Community will inevitably be replaced.
