Off the Eaten Path
Assistant Director of Bands
Food connects people. When a family, group of friends, or even a conglomeration of strangers sits down at the table together, new relationships are formed, old are renewed, and the shaky are stabilized. When eating becomes more of a burden than a joy, and when the food just is not available to eat, every other aspect of life suffers. Our Mayfield Project is based around this idea that eating is the universal experience that connects us all to each other. We are motivated by this fact to work towards better food availability for all. In our own Vandy bubble, we wish to make alternate eating lifestyles more accessible and less stressful. Food should remain a joy even for those that want or need to eat differently than the vast majority of our population. Outside of our campus sphere, we hope to bring joy to others in our community by serving and collecting food for the hungry. We hope to venture ‘Off the Eaten Path’ here at Vandy and around Nashville by discovering and rediscovering alternate eating establishments. We then hope to travel off the well-worn roads we traverse here on campus and head out into the real world to truly serve our greater Nashville community.
