Project Description
“Dumbledore’s Army: The Fight for Childhood Literacy” will raise money and awareness for childhood literacy. We believe the best way to do this is through Harry Potter. The Harry Potter series are books that we all grew up with and which got us interested in reading. We are hoping to use the effect that Harry Potter had on us in order to help children realize how fun reading can be. We will volunteer with Books from Birth (first semester) and participate in Belmont’s Family Literacy Day (second semester). To raise money for childhood literacy, we will hold various Harry Potter themed events on the Vanderbilt campus that will be open to the Vanderbilt community. These activities will include a Wizard Chess Tournament, Quidditch Tournament, and a Yule Ball. We hope to help the children of today learn about the joys of reading and help community groups that are already doing so.
