The VitaMen

Advisor: Sarah G. McIlvaine

Project Description:

The VitaMen will introduce Nashville to Blessings in a Backpack, a nationwide program which provides food to children who are on free/reduced lunch plans. On the weekends, many of these kids go hungry without additional nutritive support. The aims of our Mayfield are to palliate their immediate physical hunger with healthy, tasty food, and also educate them about the act of consumption and how it truly affects them. As there is an endemic failure to acquire a solid, independent knowledge base on nutrition among young eaters, we aim to encourage them to implement healthy standards and assert control over what they choose to eat.

In addition to providing food (via Blessings in a Backpack), we will raise awareness and encourage critical thinking through the distribution of educational materials and the majesty of song.
