Our project will continue the work of last years Vita-men Mayfield project continuing the development of the Blessing in a Backpack Program (BIAB) in Nashville elementary schools. Our group, through BIAB, will service the large number of children in Nashville whose main source of food during the week are free-reduced lunches and who may have little food to eat on the weekend. Our project will work to provide these students with backpacks full of nutritious food to eat over the weekend. Studies have shown that through this program, students have not only have better diets but students also make better grades and show more focus during school. We will conduct a study during the course of our project to determine the effects of our program on these factors. Also, by the end of the year we hope to become a Vanderbilt student organization.
