In the final issue of each month, the Register publishes grants in excess of $25,000 that were awarded for the previous month. The Division of Sponsored Research received notification in December that the following grants had been awarded: Bruce Appel, Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $75,000 by the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation for “Analysis of Oligodendrocyte Percursor Migration in Zebrafish.” Gautum Biswas, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $100,000 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for “Robust Methods for Autonomous Fault Adaptive Control of Complex Systems.” Kenneth Frampton and Gabor Karsai are co-principal investigators. Kendal Broadie, Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $270,000 by the Public Health Service for “Neurological Function of Fragile X Gene in Drosophila.” Leonard C. Feldman, Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $155,000 by the Department of Defense for “Development of Process Technologies to Substantially Improve the Performance of MOS-1 Sic Power Switching Devices.” Sokrates Pantelides is co-principal investigator. Feldman has also been awarded a grant of $200,000 by the Department of Energy for “Hydrogen-Bond Specific Materials in Group IV Semiconductors.” Norman Tolk is co-principal investigator. Robert Galloway, Jr., Department of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $65,047 by the Public Health Service for “Image-Guided Liver Surgery.” Benoit Dawant and Michael Miga are co-principal investigators. William Hamilton, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $34,600 by Consoer-Townsend and Associates for the “Nashville Overflow Abatement Program.” William Hofmeister, Department of Chemical Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $57,758 by the Department of Defense for “Feedback Control for IIT Research Institute LENS Machine.” Carl Johnson, Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $309,308 by the Public Health Service for “Circadian Programs in Bacteria.” David Kosson, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $106,000 by the Department of Energy for “Consortium for Risk Evaluation with Stakeholder Participation II.” Debra J. Rog, Department of VIPPS Central, has been awarded a grant of $61,591 by the Public Health Service for “Link Health Care for the Homeless Programs and Community Health Agencies Collaboration Project.” Sandra Rosenthal, Department of Chemical Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $151,844 by the department of Energy for “Materials Research for Nanostructured Photovoltaics.” Jeffrey Schall, Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $171,784 by the Public Health Service for “Training Grant in Vision Research.” Andrew Shookhoff, Department of VIPPS Central, has been awarded a grant of $100,000 by the Annie B. Casey Foundation for “Family Reunion 10: Back to the Future Conference.” Michael Stone, Department of Chemistry in College of Arts and Sciences, has been awarded a grant of $238,020 by the Public Health Service for “Adduct Induced Frameshift Mutagenesis.” Nancy Vye, Department of Psychology and Human Development in the Peabody College, has been awarded a grant of $296,201 by the National Science Foundation for “Collaborative Research: Exploring the Value of Learning by Teaching.” John Bransford and Gautam Biswas are co-principal investigators.
