In the final issue of each month, the Register publishes grants in excess of $25,000 that were awarded for the previous month. The Division of Sponsored Research received notification in November that the following grants had been awarded:

Woo-Kyoung Ahn, Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $294,350 by the Public Health Service for “Casual and Conceptual Knowledge.”

Franz Baudenbacher, Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $60,270 by the Public Health Service for “Nano BioReactor: Assembly and Physical Measurements.”

Dietmar H. Bisch, Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $31,559 by the National Science Foundation for “Subfactors and Symmetry.”

John D. Bransford, Department of Psychology and Human Development in the Peabody College, has been awarded a grant of $46,000 by Harvard University for “Harvard Institute for Statewide Literacy Initiatives .”

Kendal Broadie, Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $375,000 by the Public Health Service for “Synaptic Mechanisms in Drosophila Neurodegeneration Model.”

David A. Cole, Department of Psychology and Human Development in the Peabody College, has been awarded a grant of $408,772 by the Public Health Service for “Development Origins of Depressive Cognitions.” Judy Garber and Bahr Weiss are co-principal investigators.

Peter T. Cummings, Department of Chemical Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $65,000 by the Department of Energy for “Simulation Studies on Nanoporous Fluids.”

Mark Does, Department of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $91,426 by the Whitaker Foundation for “Tissue Characterization with MRI Using Multi-exponential Relaxation and Diffusion.”

David Kosson, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $57,426 by the Department of Energy for “Consortium for Risk Evaluation with Stakeholder Participation II.”

Eugene LeBoeuf, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $67,814 by the Department of Defense for “Development of the GIS-based Spill Management Information System Phase I: Proof of Principle Demonstration for the Cheatham Reach, Nashville, Tennessee.” James Dobbins and Mark D. Abkowitz are co-principal investigators.

Ellen Pinderhughes, Department of Psychology and Human Development in the Peabody College, has been awarded a grant of $66,732 by the Public Health Service for “A Benefit-Cost Analysis of the Fast Tract Intervention.”

Carmelo Rizzo, Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $264,250 by the Public Health Service for “DNA-Adducts of Lipid Peroxidation Products.”

David G. Schlundt, Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $69,215 by the MeHarry Medical College for “State Farm Alliance.”

Ronald D. Schrimpf, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $40,000 by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency for “Radiation Effects in Microelectronics.” Lloyd W. Massengill and Daniel M. Fleetwood are co-principal investigators.

Paul Speer, Department of Human and Organizational Development in the Peabody College, has been awarded a grant of $48,800 by Metropolitan Nashville for “Nashville Biased-Based Policing.” Brian Williams is co-principal investigator.

John Wikswo, Jr., Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $443,094 by the Public Health Service for “Electrophysiological Implications for Cardiac Bidomain.” Franz Baudenbacher is co-principal investigator.
