Mold in McGill has been addressed
The mold that was growing in some areas of McGill Hall has been removed, University officials said. Inspections to the building revealed that air intakes and ventilation systems were generally clogged with leaves and debris, allowing only small amounts of air to pass through. A strong positive correlation was found between messiness and mold in student rooms. Clothing, furniture or trash blocking the air circulation of the heating and cooling units were specifically identified as being highly problematic. Several University operations departments worked together to clean problem areas, improve insulation and to make other modifications such as replace all air system filters to eliminate the mold. SJR Company was hired to test the building for positive airflow throughout the halls. All buildings tested within 98 percent of original specifications. Plant Operations will periodically measure the humidity levels in the common areas to ensure that they remain within acceptable limits. During the semester break, all fan coil units in affected Alumni Lawn buildings will be inspected and cleaned as needed. All other residence halls will be reviewed and tested over the next three months, according to Department of Housing and Residential Education.
