Vanderbilt to co-sponsor, host senatorial debate

Senatorial candidates Republican nominee Lamar Alexander and Democrat nominee Bob Clement will square off in a live debate at Ingram Hall, sponsored by Vanderbilt, the NewsChannel5 Network and The Tennessean, Sunday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m.

The one-hour debate will be televised live on NewsChannel5, and is expected to be rebroadcast on NewsChannel5+ — cable channel 50.

"Every election is important, but this year's Senate race has a special significance for Tennessee, and for the nation," said Chancellor Gordon Gee. "I am pleased and proud that Vanderbilt will join with NewsChannel5 and The Tennessean to present a fair exchange of views and information for the voters. This is as much a part of our educational mission as anything that happens in the classroom."

NewsChannel5 anchor Chris Clark, who recently hosted a similar debate between Tennessee gubernatorial candidates, will moderate the debate, along with a reporter from The Tennessean.
