This year, almost 1,500 staff members were honored in September for their years of service to University Central and the Medical Center. During the Sept. 3 kickoff for Employee Celebration Month, staff celebrating 5- to 45-year anniversaries (in five-year increments) picked up their service pins. Those celebrating 10-, 15- and 20-year anniversaries also received a gift. Twenty-five year honorees were recognized with a “Silver Salute” ceremony, in which senior administrators delivered to the workplaces of the honorees certificates of appreciation, cookies and balloons. Those who have served from 30- to 45-years at Vanderbilt were recognized at the 2002 Service Awards ceremony at Langford Auditorium Sept. 30. A reception followed at Chancellor Gordon Gee’s residence. Howard Thomason, patient care technician, and Beverly Brothers, administrative assistant for the Department of Athletics were recognized as the 2002 recipients of the Commodore Award, the University’s highest honor to bestow upon a staff member. |
