Emerson String Quartet to
Perform at Vanderbilt

The Emerson String Quartet, one of the world’s finest music ensembles, will perform as part of the Great Performances at Vanderbilt at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 in Langford Auditorium.

The concert’s program includes Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet D in g minor, op. 20, No. 3, H. III: 33 (1772); Béla Bartók’s String No. 3 (1927) and Franz Shubert’s Quartet in d minor, D.810 “Death and the Maiden” (1824).
The Grammy-award winning quartet, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, will once again enthrall Nashville audiences with its amazing polish. Critics praise the ensemble for its technical mastery, cohesiveness and broad character that keeps its performances fresh and interesting for audiences.

The Quartet took its name from the great American poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson. Violinist Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer alternate in the chair position, and are joined by violinist Lawrence Dutton and cellist David Finckel. The Quartet has performed numerous benefit concerts for causes ranging from nuclear disarmament to the fight against AIDS, world hunger and children’s diseases.

Tickets to the performance are $28, $24 and $20; Vanderbilt faculty, staff, students at all levels and children are $14; and Vanderbilt students are $5. Group rates are available. Tickets are available through all Ticketmaster outlets, 255-9600 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
