Special interest in American literature, Southern literature (expecially
Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, Walker Percy and Reynolds Price). Author
of books including "Eudora Welty's Achievement of Order," "Figures of
the Hero in Southern Narrative" and "Author and Agent: Eudora Welty
and Diarmuid Russell." A forthcoming book will examine the coming-into-being
of the literary culture of the American South in this century.

and 45-year veteran of the recording industry. Former professional singer,
record producer and executive. Board member of W.O. Smith Nashville
Community Music School, Country Music Foundation and the Howard Hanson
Memorial Institute of Music. Visiting adjunct professor, Eastman School
of Music.

Tennessee State University
One of the leading experts on the history and development of country
music. He is the author of "The Devil's Box: Masters of Southern Fiddling"
(Vanderbilt/Country Music Foundation Press)

Sherkat, associate professor of sociology and religious studies
Research and teaching interests include sociology of religion, social
movements, statistics and methods, and rational choice theory. Consultant
