As President Bill Clinton prepared to announce his health care reform plan to the nation, Peter Jennings and the ABC news crew converged upon the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. ABC's World News Tonight was broadcast in front of VUMC's emergency room on Sept. 20, 1993, in preparation for Clinton's speech on Sept. 22. Because of its prominence in the health care industry, ABC chose VUMC and Nashville as the forum for a three-evening series on the status of health care in the nation. Featured in the series were the neonatal intensive care unit, hospital billing procedures and TennCare.
