Update

Biosciences/MRBIII construction
The construction of Medical
Research Building III began over the summer, and thus far the
site has been excavated, first level support columns installed
and steam line routing completed. Funded by the Medical Center
and the College of Arts and Science, 300,000 gross square feet
will be built and ready for use by May 2002. Phase two of the
construction, beginning in June 2002, will be to relocate the
Learned Lab occupants to the new facility as the existing Learned
Lab is renovated.
Completion date: March 2003

Blair School of Music addition
Phase one, the construction of additional
classrooms, practice rooms and offices at the Blair School of
Music has been completed, and classes are being held in the new
facility. The 40,700-square-feet of new space was completed within
budget. Phase two of the project is well under way with mass excavation
currently in progress. Phase two will include the construction
of a 61,000-square-foot addition and a 5,000-square-foot renovation,
including the building of a 620-seat performance hall, rehearsal
facilities, and additional library
and administration space.
Completion date: Aug. 15, 2001

Law School addition and renovation
Phase one, the addition of two wings to
the existing Law School Building, is now complete. All furnishings
are installed and classroom spaces are functioning. Phase two,
the renovation of the central core of the building, is on schedule.
The final phase three renovation of faculty offices will complete
the project in January 2002.
Completion date: January 2002

Memorial Gymnasium renovation and
expansion
Phase two of the Memorial
Gymnasium renovation is under way, creating a new practice gym
with three cross courts for practice use by the men and women's
basketball teams. The Admirals Club and coaches' offices are also
being added. Construction will not interfere with the 2000-01
basketball season, as the interior renovation was completed in
1999.
Completion date: July 2001
Approved funding: $10,824,000

McGugin Field Baseball Stadium expansion
Phase one, including the relocation and
expansion of the baseball field and construction of new dugouts
and an outside metal wall, is under way. The field construction
has been completed in order to grow sod on the field. Phase one
is scheduled to be complete in October, staying within the $2.15
million budget. Phase two, the construction of a brick stadium
with seats for 2,300 spectators, will require additional funds
of $3 million. Pending funding, phase two is tentatively scheduled
to begin in May 2001 and be completed by January 2002.

Vanderbilt Children's Hospital construction
Construction has begun at Capers and 22nd
avenues as excavation contractors prepare the site to house the
new 206-bed Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The new 564,000-square-foot, free-standing facility will include
eight operating suites and larger patient rooms.
Completion date: May 2003
Approved funding: $150 million

Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center
addition
This project consists of a
multi-story addition to the Preston Research Building on the south
face. The purpose of this building is to consolidate the E. Bronson
Ingram Cancer Center programs into one primary location with a
distinct presence within the Vanderbilt University Medical Center
campus. The project consists of a new two-story lobby at grade
with a patient drop-off area, five office floors and a conference
center floor. The installation of concrete floor slabs and steel
framing is in progress.
Completion date: June 2001

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Center
installation
The creation of a center to
house five nuclear magnetic resonance devices is nearing completion.
The installation of the 800-MHz magnet was recently completed,
as were modifications to the building to house the equipment.
The setting up, energizing and testing of the three magnets currently
on location is now in progress by the manufacturer. Preexisting
conditions discovered during construction put the project beyond
the original schedule and budget.

Jacobs Hall addition and renovation
Site utility work and demolition
of the central wing is complete. Construction of the new, central
portion began Aug. 1 and remains on schedule to open in October
2001. Renovation of both existing wings will then begin for a
July 2002 completion date.
