Douglas Fuchs and Lynn S. Fuchs, professors
of special education and co-directors of the Institute on Learning
Accommodations for Individuals with Special Needs at the John F. Kennedy
Center, are being honored by the Peabody Alumni Association as this
year's distinguished scholars. |

PAPERS & PRESENTATIONS
Susan R. Goldman, professor of psychology and co-director
of the Learning Technology Center, made a spring trip to Germany where
she made several presentations on creating learning environments and the
challenges of multimedia support. She made presentations at the University
of Munich and the Max Plank Institute. Goldman also conducted a workshop
on "Professional Development for Student Understanding in Technology-Based
Classrooms" for Networked Interactive Media in Waldeck, Germany.

Wendy A. Hunter, associate professor of political science,
was a panel member discussing "Latin America: Views on New Economy"
at the Americas Project conference Oct. 2, at the James A. Baker
Institute of Public Policy at Rice University. The panel of experts
shared their views on why poverty in the western hemisphere, particularly
in Latin America, is growing despite the growth of trade.

| Dr. Raymond N. DuBois Jr., professor of medicine
and cell biology and the Mina Cobb Wallace Chair in Gastroenterology
and Cancer prevention, and Dr. Graham F. Carpenter, professor
of biochemistry and medicine (dermatology) and the Ingram Professor
of Cancer Research, spoke at the 10th National Conference of the Inflammation
Research Association to Feature "The Changing Face of Inflammation:
Strategies for the New Millennium." DuBois presented "Role of COX-2
in Inflammation and Cancer." Graham spoke on "The Role(s) of Metalloproteases
in Processing of EGF-like Ligands ErbB Receptors." |

| Jerome H. Reichman, professor of law, has
had several recent publications. His article, "The TRIPS Agreement
Comes of Age: Conflict or Cooperation with the Developing Countries?"
and the chapter, "Beyond the Treaties: Symposium on Compliance with
International Intellectual Property Law," were published in Intellectual
Property: Trade, Competition, and Sustainable Development by the
World Trade Organization. |
