Here come the `Men in Black and Gold'

Midnight Madness features shades, celebrities, scrimmage

Vanderbilt basketball's annual Midnight Madness, with a theme of "Men in Black and Gold," is slated for Friday, Oct. 17, in Memorial Gym.

Admission is free and the doors open at 10:30 p.m., with free sunglasses going to the first 5,000 fans. Festivities include high school dance lines and a celebrity basketball game featuring country music performers Vince Gill, George Ducas, former Vanderbilt players and local media.

A Vanderbilt student will be picked to attempt a shot to win $10,000. There will also be a student three-point shooting contest, with the winner taking on Commodore coach Jan van Breda Kolff, a former Vanderbilt and NBA standout.

At midnight, the first time NCAA teams can begin practice for the upcoming season, Vanderbilt will hold a Black-Gold Scrimmage. At halftime there will be a team three-point shooting contest. A team autograph session will follow the scrimmage, which concludes at 12:45 a.m.
