In the final issue of each month, the Register publishes grants in excess of $25,000 that were awarded the previous month. The Division of Sponsored Research received notification in April that the following grants had been awarded:
Gautam Biswas, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $90,000 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for "Robust Methods for Autonomous Fault Adaptive Control of Complex Systems." Kenneth Frampton is co-principal investigator.
Randolph Blake, Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $117,443 by the Public Health Service for "Binocular Rivalry in Human Vision."
Frank E. Carroll, Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $500,000 by the Department of Defense for "Prototype Development of a Compact, Pulsed Hard X-ray Source for Medical Imaging and Research in Biological and Materials Sciences."
Paul Cobb, Department of Teaching and Learning in Peabody College, has been awarded a grant of $212,648 by the Department of Education for "Designing Learning Environments and Assessment Practices." Kay J. McClain is co-principal investigator. William J. Collins, Department of Economics and Business Administration in the College of Arts and Science, has been awarded a grant of $82,008 by the National Bureau of Economic Research, Inc. for "The National Bureau of Economic Research National Fellowship."
James E. Foster, Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy Studies, has been awarded a grant of $249,921 by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for "Understanding Health Disparities from an Economic Perspective."
Kenneth F. Galloway, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $135,240 by the Department of Defense for "IPA Assignment for Vijay Raghavan." Vijay Raghavan is co-principal investigator.
Robert L. Galloway Jr., Department of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a grant of $62,500 by the National Science Foundation for "Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU) for Technology-Guided Therapy." Benoit Dawant is co-principal investigator.
