Parking Advisory for Commencement 2002Commencement day will bring families and friends from across the nation and around the world, and most of them will be driving to campus. As such, Commencement Director Kimberly Fuller and the Office of Traffic and Parking have established special parking regulations for Commencement May 10. Despite these regulations, faculty, staff and guests should still observe important traffic laws such as keeping all fire lanes open and making sure that handicapped parking is reserved for those with disability parking permits. In order to ameliorate traffic problems, these guidelines should be followed:
Faculty and Staff Commencement Parking Open Parking * Terrace Place Garage Parking is available in the Terrace Place Garage with a purple Commencement permit. Pick up the purple permit at the Traffic and Parking Office in the Wesley Place Garage. * Wesley Place Garage Parking will be open for Zone 2 and Reserved permit holders. Parking will be also available in the lots bordering 18th Avenue South behind the Hill Student Center.
Closed Parking * All parking meters along West End Avenue from 21st to 25th avenues. * All VU Zone 2 lots bordering West End Avenue. * All VU lots along 21st Avenue from West End to Scarritt Place. * Lot 90 on the south side of the Faye and Joe Wyatt Center for Education and Magnolia Circle.
In the Event of Rain Open Parking * All parking meters along West End Avenue from 21st to 25th avenues. * All VU lots bordering West End Avenue. * All VU lots along 21st Avenue from West End to Scaritt Place. * Terrace Place Garage is available as usual. Wesley Place Garage is open for Zone 2 and Reserved permit holders. Closed Parking * All lots in the vicinity of Memorial Gym. Please note: The parking lots around Memorial Gym will be closed to faculty and staff if the weather is uncertain on May 10. These lots are needed in the event that it rains after the ceremony has started on Alumni Lawn and the ceremony must be moved to the gym.
Guest Commencement Parking * Parking is available in the parking garage at 25th Avenue South and Highland Avenue for guests attending Commencement. Shuttle buses will run from the 25th Avenue Garage and the Highland Garage to Alumni Lawn at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Commencement day. Vanderbilt Police Officers will be on hand to assist. Guests may also park in lots on campus except for in the lots marked with bright blue Medical Center signs and lots reserved for guests with mobility impairments.
Disability-Related Needs * The University has reserved parking spaces for guests with mobility impairments. However, the total number of parking spaces is limited. To park in one of these reserved spaces, a Commencement 2002 disability parking permit is required. Please make your disability parking arrangement as soon as possible. * Please Note: Graduates and guests with car license plates or placards indicating a disability will also need to display a Commencement 2002 disability parking permit in order to access any reserved campus parking lot on May 10. A limited number of wheelchairs are available for loan by prior reservation, and an area within the seating section has been reserved for wheelchair users. Campus maps illustrating accessible entrances to buildings are available.
