Dyson to speak on campus

Award-winning author, ordained Baptist minister and scholar Michael Eric Dyson will speak March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Rotunda of the Social-Religious building on Peabody campus. His topic will be “The Roles and Responsibilities on the African-American Community in the New Millennium.” A reception and book signing will follow the lecture. Harvard professor to speak

Michael Herzfeld, professor of anthropology at Harvard University, will speak March 25 on “Labored Sufferings and Creative Play: Imagining a Culture through Ethnographic Biography” at 4 p.m. in Room 109, Calhoun Hall. National Anxiety Screening Day

Free anxiety screenings will be held in three locations on campus in recognition of National Anxiety Screening Day March 25. Screenings and free educational materials will be available 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Student Health, the atrium of the Social-Religious building on Peabody Campus and in Room 203 of Sarratt.

Odetta appears March 25

Odetta, a folk singer whose work influenced Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, the Indigo Girls and Bob Dylan, will perform March 25 as part of the First Amendment in Concert series. She will also join John Seigenthaler and Executive Director Ken Paulson in conversation about the First Amendment and music. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 3 p.m. at the First Amendment Center, located at 1207 18th Ave. South. Philosophy lecture

John McDowell, professor of philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, will speak March 26 on “Towards Rehabilitating Objectivity.” His lecture, sponsored by the McVean Fund, will be held in Room 109 of Furman Hall beginning at 3:15 p.m. For more information, please call 322-2637.

Art festival to be held

The McGill Project will sponsor the Apollo Rising Art Festival March 28. The festival will feature artwork and performances by Nashville-area students in Wilson Hall from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

‘Dancin’ through the Decades’

Athenian Sing will be held March 27 in Langford Auditorium, beginning at 8 p.m. Student groups will participate in the evening of music and dancing to the theme “Dancin’ through the Decades.” Tickets are available on the Wall or at Sarratt for $12. Sarratt Student Art Show

This annual exhibition showcasing the best art by Vanderbilt students will be on display between March 26 and April 17 in the Sarratt Student Center. Sponsored by Sarratt Gallery, the exhibit is held in conjunction with Parents’ Weekend and Rites of Spring. For more information, please contact JoEl Logiudice at 322-2471. Body image group forming

Vanderbilt Undergraduate women are invited to attend a free, six-week course focusing on body image. The goal of the course is to inform, educate and support students regarding the pressures placed on appearance in today’s culture. The group aims to encourage self-acceptance and the ability to maintain a healthy esteem about one’s own body through awareness. The group will meet Fridays from 2- 3:30 p.m. March 19-April 23.
