A lawyer-turned-communications specialist joined the Division of Public
Affairs June 11, as did an award-winning journalist.
Former
attorney David Glasgow will join the News Service as a public affairs
officer with responsibilities for the Divinity School, Blair School
of Music and parts of the College of Arts and Science. Jessica Howard
joined the Division of Public Affairs as an editorial assistant to the
Vanderbilt Register.
Glasgow comes to Vanderbilt from the Tennessee Department of Commerce
and Insurance, where he was press secretary and assistant to Commissioner
Anne Pope. He previously served as press secretary and liaison to the
music industry for the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission.
He also served as press secretary for two congressional campaigns in
Tennessee, and for two years he worked on a federal training program
at Walters State Community College. Glasgow received a law degree from
the University of Alabama and practiced law for several years in East
Tennessee before making a career change.
As public affairs officer for the newly reconstituted arts and humanities
beat, Glasgow will serve as liaison for the News Service with the Divinity
School, Blair School and most of the non-science areas of the College
of Arts and Science.
Howard,
editorial assistant to the Vanderbilt Register, has won various
writing awards for her work, which has appeared in several business
magazines and newspapers in Alabama. Howard is a graduate of the mass
communications program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and
is a member of the National Federation of Press Women.
As editorial assistant, Howard will write news and feature stories
for the Vanderbilt Register, as well as help edit the weekly
