Construction crews work to complete the new Law School Building in time for classes in fall 1962.

Much like the summer of 2000, the summer of 1961 was marked by construction on every corner of campus. The building of the Vanderbilt Law School Building was well underway, creating 105,000 square feet of space at an estimated cost of $1.25 million. Because it had outgrown its quarters in Old Main, now called Kirkland Hall, Law School administrators anticipated that the new building would allow enrollment to increase from 175 to 300. The new building opened its doors in fall 1962. The current expansion and renovation of the Law School Building is expected to be completed in 2002.
