May 22, 2000 Gee announces significant realignment of senior executives and functions. In addition to personnel changes, the Division of Administration and the Division of Public Affairs (formerly Media Relations) assume new responsibilities. June 12, 2000 Gee participates in Strategic Academic Planning Workshop, his first joint interaction with deans, faculty and administrators. July 31, 2000 Leadership of the University passes from Joe B. Wyatt to Gee. August 31, 2000 During his inaugural Faculty Assembly address, Gee issues five challenges to faculty members.
November 25, 2000 Gee hosts a party for local, state and federal government officials at Adelphia Coliseum prior to the Vanderbilt football game against the University of Tennessee. December 2000 The Chancellor's Office relocates from Sarratt Student Center to remodeled space in Kirkland Hall. January 9, 2001 Gee visits state officials at the Capitol as the 102nd General Assembly convenes. January 22, 2001 Gee announces a second major administrative restructuring that consolidates several key functions and creates two new executive positions: Vice chancellor for institutional planning and advancement, and vice chancellor for student affairs and campus life. February 26, 2001 Gee is named vice chair of education for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. February 28, 2001 Gee joins 34 other presidents and chancellors of major research universities in signing a letter to President Bush regarding the federal government's commitment to science and engineering research in the coming year and beyond.
June 2001 Gee and his wife, Constance, move into the recently refurbished Braeburn marking the first time the Chancellor's Residence has been used as a full-time home in almost 20 years.
