Faculty-Staff Campaign doubles previous recordby Meghan Codd Vanderbilt faculty and staff donated to the University more than twice the amount of money raised in any previous internal campaign, according to campaign officials. More than $1.4 million was contributed during the 2001 Faculty-Staff Campaign, which concluded June 30. This year's extraordinary result is attributed in large part to two nonrecurring gifts of approximately $660,000 and $180,000. This year's total of $1,456,104 in pledges and gifts still exceeds last year's total of $596,867 when the two unusually large donations are subtracted. The number of donors contributing to the annual internal fund-raiser increased from 1,341 to 1,394, and the amount of money pledged is the second highest in the campaign's history, said Pat Pierce, director of the Opportunity Development Center and chair of the 2001 Faculty-Staff Campaign. Pierce attributed much of the campaign's success to efforts to diversify the areas of donation. She said weekly features in the Vanderbilt Register that highlighted a variety of programs to which faculty and staff could contribute helped to increase the campaign's visibility. This year's contributions will go to support programs such as the Staff-Faculty Hardship Fund, the Chancellor's Scholarships for Outstanding Minority Students, the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and each of the University's 10 schools. "Our success reflects that Vanderbilt faculty and staff not only support through their dedicated work, but their financial contributions as well," said Pierce. In addition to generating funds, faculty and staff support of the University helps Vanderbilt solicit donations externally, said Pierce. More than 100 non-medical faculty and staff volunteered to solicit donations from non-medical departments and divisions.
