ASK THE EXPERTS

Q: Can a person exercise too much?

A: A person can cause future problems if there is constant, repetitive stress placed upon the body. Bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons are all susceptible to injury with overuse. However, if a person incorporates a variety of activities, allows sufficient rest periods and maintains a complete, healthy diet, the body is capable of a tremendous exercising capacity. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that everyone should get at least 3 days of exercise, consisting of 20-30 minutes of continuous work, in a target heart rate level.
