Wesley Hall, Feb. 19, 1932

One of Vanderbilt's oldest buildings, Wesley Hall, burned to the ground Feb. 19, 1932. Built in 1880, Wesley Hall housed the School of Religion andcontained its classrooms, offices, l ibrary and housing for some students and faculty. Though no one was harmed in the fire, items of immense value were lost including the contents of the library, furniture, clothing and students' notes and dissertations. In addition, the cafeteria was destroyed, a popular eating spot for students and Nashville residents and a source of income for the school. Classes and offices were relocated elsewhere on campus and instruction continued in the School of Religion
