Owen's leader makes communication with students, faculty top priority

Bill Christie's ritual Tuesday afternoon practice speaks volumes about his approach to being dean of the Owen Graduate School of Management.

Fashioned after Lucy's "The Doctor Is In" booth from the Peanuts comic strip, Christie's shop is in the lobby of the school. Once a week, he hangs out his "The Dean Is In" sign there and takes whatever comes from students, staff and faculty

Activities focus upon eating disorders

Promoting a healthy body image will be the focus of a week of activities, which will include posting messages around campus, including inside restrooms and on the Rand Wall.

As part of Vanderbilt University Eating Disorders Awareness Week Feb. 19­23, many public mirrors on campus will be covered with messages about the insignificance of outer beauty, and that the waistline should not be a factor in one's self identity. The schedule of events is remarkable, particularly for an idea that was launched little more than a year ago.

Comprehensive calendar consolidates University, Nashville eventss

University administrators have turned to the Internet to help schedule, track and publicize the thousands of University-related events on and off campus throughout the year. The newly created Office of University Calendar will launch its Web-based system Feb. 27, which will feature a comprehensive calendar of events for University Central, the Medical Center, the student body as well as the Nashville community.

"The University has never had a university-wide calendar that truly promoted and provided information about events going on around campus," said Danielle Mezera, director of policy and planning.
