Campus officials announced last week the membership programs and plans
in which members of the Vanderbilt community can join the Legends Club,
a golf course acquired by the University last spring.
On Dec. 1, members of the Vanderbilt community, including emeritus
faculty, full-time faculty, staff and students, became eligible to join
the golf club in Franklin, Tenn., with discounted initiation fees and
monthly membership dues. Faculty and staff are eligible to pay monthly
dues through payroll deduction. There is also an option for members
of the Vanderbilt community to purchase greens fees at a discounted
rate without joining the golf club.
The acquisition of the 36-hole facility was completed March 30 using
private funds from anonymous donors. Membership of the golf club will
consist of the 600-plus members currently enrolled, and future members
that may or may not be affiliated with the University.
An advisory committee appointed by Chancellor Gordon Gee consisting
of Vanderbilt University faculty, students, staff, a Board of Trust
representative, community members, and current Legends Club members
developed the membership and access plans for the Vanderbilt community,
said Lauren J. Brisky, vice chancellor for administration and the University's
chief financial officer. The plans will be reviewed and revised on an
annual basis, she said.
The initiation fees, monthly dues and greens fees are 20 percent less
than the fees for people not affiliated with the University, said Nim
Chinniah, associate vice chancellor for administration and liaison between
the University and club management. Membership perks include a 10 percent
discount on merchandise, food and drinks charged to the member's account.
There are also two other plans: the Black Card and Gold Card. The Black
Card -- available for $490 plus tax -- entitles the holder to 10 rounds
of golf and advanced booking of tee times. The Gold Card -- available
for $260 plus tax -- entitles the holder to five rounds of golf and
advanced booking of tee times. The Black and Gold cards are available
in the Vanderbilt Bookstore or through the Legends Club. Vanderbilt
identification is required for purchase.
The Legends Club is the home course for Vanderbilt's men's and women's
varsity golf teams, and is the site of the 2002 LPGA Electrolux Championship.
