Department: Project GRAD Nashville
Key Data: This site is designed to
help inner-city youth succeed in school and pursue higher education.
Project GRAD serves 3,400 students from pre-K through high school in
the six schools of the Pearl-Cohn High School feeder pattern. Components
include a scholarship program, teacher professional development, and
coordination of health and human services for students and families.
More than 50 Vanderbilt students serve as tutors and mentors, and this
fall several will serve as investigators and writers for the Web site.
Faculty have taught English, mathematics and science in the GRAD Summer
Scholars Institute, a required four-week program hosted by Vanderbilt
and designed to introduce students to learning on a college campus.
The site is designed to link constituents to one another, and to build
awareness of creative opportunities to support the successful development
of young Nashvillians. The Student Section of the Web site was designed
by Pearl-Cohn High School students.
